Privacy Policy

OlympChess — olympchess.com

Effective 22 August 2026

§1. Who we are

The data controller is Sebastian Paszkiewicz, ul. Jana III Sobieskiego 52/2, 55-330 Lutynia, Poland — owner of olympchess.com.

For anything concerning your data, write to books@olympchess.com.

§2. What we process and why

We process only what you give us yourself, plus the basic technical data generated when you use the site.

  • Buying an ebook — the data needed to fulfil your order and give you the file. Basis: performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our tax and accounting obligations (Article 6(1)(c)).
  • Joining the waitlist or the newsletter — your email address and a record of the consent you gave. Basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Using the site — technical data, including IP address and browser information, processed so that the site works and so that the files and forms we provide are protected against abuse. Basis: our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Providing data is voluntary, but without an email address we cannot deliver the file you bought or tell you when a book is published.

We never receive your card details — payment is handled entirely by an external provider on their own page. We do not process special categories of data, we do not profile you, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

§3. How long we keep it

We keep data only as long as it is needed for the purpose we collected it for — and where the law requires longer retention, such as for tax records, for the period those rules set out.

Data processed on the basis of consent is deleted once you withdraw it; we keep only the fact that you opted out, so that we do not contact you again. Technical data and logs are deleted once they are no longer needed to keep the site secure.

§4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing. We do entrust it to providers who process it on our behalf and only as far as delivering the service requires: payment processing, hosting of the site and email, email delivery, and analytics tools and page elements loaded from external servers.

We may also disclose data to public authorities entitled to it under the law.

Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, it relies on the mechanisms provided for in the GDPR — an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

§5. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict how we process it, receive it in a portable form, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.

To exercise any of these rights, write to books@olympchess.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Poland that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (uodo.gov.pl) — or with the authority in your own country of residence.

§6. Cookies

The site uses cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work — without them forms and sessions do not function properly.

We also use analytics and marketing tools supplied by third parties, which may set cookies of their own. In addition, some elements of the page, such as typefaces, are loaded from external servers — in that case your browser connects to them directly and discloses its IP address to them.

You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones may make parts of the site unusable.

§7. Changes

If we change how we process data, we will update this policy and state a new date at the top of the document. The current version is always available at olympchess.com/privacy.
