Magnus Carlsen Transformed Chess in Norway

Norway at the Chess Olympiads

Magnus Carlsen and the transformation of Norway's chess team at the Chess Olympiads

Norway – from chess Cinderella to a chess giant.

Between 1960 and 2002, Norway was among the weakest teams not only in Europe (top photo).

In 2013, Magnus Carlsen won the world champion title, but he had already made his debut at the age of 14 in Calvia in 2004 – and immediately as the team leader. A few years passed and Norway became an exceptionally strong team, because "the kid set the example for the adults" – bottom photo.
